ABB secures power for the Shanghai Stock Exchange
ABB has recently won a contract to supply electrification solutions to the Shanghai Stock Exchange’s data center, the Jinqiao Technology Center, providing a reliable power supply for this mission-critical operation.
Imagine what ABB is protecting here…
I envision a massive open space with people in suits frantically shouting “buy… sell…”, but the reality is that many of the 6,000 or so employees quietly sit in front of computer screens watching numbers flashing across the screen, which represent the rise and fall of share prices. Imagine the catastrophe if the data center providing this flow of information suffers even a moment of downtime!
The Shanghai Stock Exchange (SSE) is the world’s fifth largest by market capitalization – or value of the shares – at about US$4.5 trillion and the second largest in Asia.
The fallout of a loss of power to keep the information flowing would cause financial shockwaves around the globe. That’s why finding a robust solution that guarantees power security and minimizes downtime was essential for the SSE’s Jinqiao Technology Center.
To secure the power flow ABB will provide 1,500 MNS® 3.0 low-voltage switchgear units. That’s the equivalent of 900 meters of switchgear when placed end to end, to provide the safe, efficient and reliable operation needed to keep the electricity flowing.
In an electric power system, switchgear is the combination of electrical disconnect switches, fuses or circuit breakers used to control, protect and isolate electrical equipment.
The MNS 3.0’s modular design enables individual units to be replaced without running the risk of an outage, which in turn minimizes downtime and impact. Its outstanding arc-resistant design and material ensures the highest levels of operator safety.
Through the expansion of space, power, supporting functions and security specifications, SSE’s Jinqiao Technology Center is now positioned as the main operation and industry hosting service center, to protect the power that keeps the data and the financial markets running smoothly.
